Tips for a single mom flying a commercial airline with 1 year old twins?
Suggestions for what to take, what to leave home, how to get the twins around airports and on the plane would be really appreciated.

First of all, I feel your pain girlfriend. My twins are 3 1/2 now. My advise would be to take as little as possible.
Skip the port-a-crib and make them little “nests” with rolled up blankets on the floor or in bed with you. Try to rent as much as possible- most major cities will have rental companies for cribs, carseats etc. Rental car companies usually work closely with these rental places and may be able to give you a phone number, or you can search the web.
Take them through the airport on a double umbrella stroller if you can. It is easy to fold up through security and people will always offer to hold a kid for you while you do that. Take it directly to the gate and “gate check” it- that way it will be available for you immediately when you get off the plane. Another option is to put one in a single stroller and front-pack the other. That’s a pain though cause getting a kid out of a front-pack is hard to do by yourself. One time I actually used the luggage flatbed cart to haul my kids through the airport…
Sit at the rear of the plane. That way you can get up and walk around near the lavs if you need to, and that’s where the attendants hang out so they might help you too.
Via con dios, my friend.

Oh, please take a Friend, a nanny, your mom!! Traveling is stressful any way and little ones are sure to zone in on that stress level!
Make sure you take along their favorite blanket, sippy cup, and a couple of toys. If they use binky’s, make sure you take a few spares.Things are bound to get lost!!

try to pack for them as light as you can so you dont have to carry so much, for one thing. um things like their favorite toy or something you know will keep their attention for a while like a dvd player so they can watch a cartoon. and you should bring your stroller to push them around in you can check it at the gate when you get on the plane so you dont have to carry them all over the place. i hope that helps some.

one thing I remember from years ago, have something for them to suck on, like a bottle or ???? as it keeps their ears from plugging up and helps open them up if they do. tiny bit, but it helps.

bring lots of snacks and water to keep the hydrated/ full
bring a bag of diposalble dollar store books and toys
check all bags expect your purse use a fanny pack instead easy acess and the kids bag- maybe have them carry a back pack for there stuff
a sleepy time blanket so when they are read they can just go – its gets really cold on airplanes and they dont wash there blankets yuck
ohh and of course a pacifer or tyenol for those little ears popping or even a sucker:)

Bring a big bag of suckers along with other snacks and drinks. Don’t be afraid to ask the flight attendants to watch one while you change the other. And ignore the other passengers, make it as fun as possible for you and the babies and don’t even worry about the other passengers. Being nervous or embarassed will make the babies feel nervous and they will freak. Buy new toys that they have never seen, pull them out when you are desperate or towards the end if all went well. Nothing like new toys to make babies happy for a few minutes. Best of luck.

Ive traveled on 10 flights already with mine and like anouther poster said is to take the least amount of stuff possible. The more tied down to luggage, bags, cribs and such the more stressful it is going to be. I usually wait till the end to get on the flight and try to get off last also so I can take my time and the staff most of the time has helped me with my bags. I also broke down finally and brought a portable DVD with Baby Einstien, snacks, and a special chocolate milk bottle (flights only) so I know they will drink it during take and landing. Good luck its hard but stay calm and do not freak out if they start to cry most people will understand.
