What is the easiest and cheapest way to file for divorce with kids involved? The custody is agreed upon?

divorce kids
I have been separated from my husband for 8 years and we have a ten year old son together. We agree on the custody arrangements but have had the money to file. I am tired of waiting for him to help with the divorce so I am trying to do it on my own but don’t have much money being a single mom and working and going to school at night. Any suggestions would be great.

Has the RECESSION effected YOU? Have YOU or your FAMILY cut spending or start BUDGETING?

family budgeting
I am a small business owner and the recession has definetly effected me. People just aren’t spending as much money as they used to. I think most people are being wise with their money and are saving and just spending for the neccessities (food, shelter, bills..)

I cut out all dining out. I grocery shop after reading the latest sale ads. I bargain shop more than ever to make my dollar stretch. I don’t go joy riding in my gas guzzler anymore..I just use my truck to go run errands that are all close to my home so I just make one trip. Now when I go to the store I stick to the items that are on my list. When I go to pick up something I ask myself 3 times..”Do I really NEED this?”.. It feels good to know I am saving money and making my money stretch!

How have you or your family budgeted? What are your tips for making your money stretch??

How important is a girl’s education and income?

women career family education
I’ve been getting a lot of heat from some of the females in my family (aunt & mom) over my taste in women.

They say that dating someone who is less educated and who doesn’t make as much money leads to big problems in the long run. They say that this is one of the biggest mistakes guys make, and a common cause of divorce.

I’m 33, and fairly successful in my career. I have a decent education and they think that my perfect match should have the same background.

The problem is, I’m not really attracted to the type of women that I work with. Many of them are Ivy League educated. Many are attorneys or CPA’s, but they all seem to have the same type-A ‘conquer the world’ mentality.

The last girl I dated worked in retail, and she was very fun and outgoing. She was also very family oriented, which is way more attractive to me than any law degree.

Has anyone regretted dating/marrying someone with less education or income? If so, what is the problem?

Do shy boys get turned on by career oriented women?

career women
I’ve heard shy boys LOVE women that are classy, can have fun but completely respect themselves.

I just found out I got into nursing school and he knows it’s been something i’ve been dreaming about and a really important goal of mines for the longest time. I’m still really young and by the time I would be done, i’ll only be 23 or 24. He’s about 2 yrs older than me so he understands how hard it all is. When i told him, he seemed”excited”& turned on;he had the half grin/half smile look.

-once i was joking w. him and said, “soo yeah, you know after a few quarter and pass my n-clex, i’ll officially be a nurse and i’ll be making that much money in a year, then i’ll be a hot, young career women making my own benjamins”. – he turned away smiling

- another time i was doing hw and he texted asking what i was up to. I told him i was doing nursing homework and he said, “ohh really? sounds like fun :)

Like i said, he seems “excited” anything nursing related to me. More points for me?

we’ve also been close friends for years now and unexpectedly we fell for each deep. (well, i did. he liked me the whole time but respected me and didn’t make a move). We were soo close to making it “official” but it was mutual that we didn’t b/c we wanted to achieve our own personal goals first. I told him i didn’t want a boyfriend until i finished school and settled into my career.

HE SEEMS VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE. If i’m stressed about school, he encourages me to think about when i graduate :)

Are there any Real Estate agents out there?

real estate hawaii
I need to find a place to stay by May 08 for at least 5 people, and rather than find somewhere to rent where it’s possible we could get kicked out with nowhere to go, I was thinking about trying to buy a house, as the mortgage payments would be about the same as rent here. We don’t have much money, we live pretty much paycheck to paycheck, so we can scratch out a downpayment. I wanted to go to an office to talk to someone about what to expect, but I’m nervous and feel like they will laugh at me. Anyway, what can I expect? Is there a process that I’ll have to go through? I don’t have much credit, none of us do, but we’re all working adults.

Other details include: We’re in Hawaii, and the houses here are between 500-750K. We’re not looking for anything fancy, and we realize we’ll be paying for a while, but what are our chances realistically?
